WATERTOWN, Mass.—On Sunday afternoon, members and supporters of the AYF Greater Boston “Nejdeh” Senior Chapter gathered at Filippello Park to get ready for the 87th Annual AYF Senior Olympics. The chapter’s social committee grilled hamburgers and prepared a barbecue buffet for the hungry athletes, whose win at the Chicago Olympics back in 2019 has them extra pumped for the upcoming weekend. After eating and socializing, the members walked down to the softball field where they were greeted by friends, family and alumni in the stands. Eyewitnesses say it was a record-breaking attendance resembling Fenway Park on a Friday night.
AYF members wasted no time in fitting their gloves, getting the bucket of balls and populating the field in small circles to warm up. Each throw was followed by the satisfying sound of the ball nestling into a glove. Strangers walking in the park watched in awe as the Boston athletes effortlessly demonstrated their skill at peak performance, ready for game time.
After warm-ups, the group was split into two teams as one filled the dugout and the other took the field. The mini-game had three intense, action-packed innings filled with perfect hits and last-minute catches. Although only one team came out victorious, the chapter was ecstatic with their overall performance which proved to them they could be real title contenders at this year’s Olympic games.
Thank you to everyone who attended the barbecue. We can’t wait to see you cheering us on as we defend our title in Providence this weekend! Go Team Nejdeh!
